Helping provide a just transition through climate jobs creation for a more circular economy during sustainable development in environmental justice communities.
[Yonkers, New York] -- The Energy Justice Alliance Hudson Valley is co-sponsoring a press conference led by NY Renews on the NYS Climate, Jobs, and Justice Package this Thursday, May 25th @ 4:00 PM EST at the Yonkers Sewage Treatment Plant (1 Fernbrok St, Yonkers, NY 10705). The Energy Justice Alliance of the Hudson Valley is a new BIPOC-led and growing coalition of community stakeholders throughout the region, connecting residents in Albany and Troy to Mount Vernon and Yonkers. We work to ensure a community-based equitable dialogue and economic participation during unprecedented times for environmental remediation and climate justice.
“The Energy Justice Alliance of the Hudson Valley will work to ensure that NY state enforces our climate act by shutting down the fossil fuel plants and infrastructure that are poisoning our communities and instead commits to deep, frontline community-led climate justice investments. Frontline communities must lead our transition and participate fully in all economic investments, from family sustaining jobs to ownership of energy assets,” said alliance Founder Raya Salter, Esq., Member of the NYS Climate Action Council and Founder and Executive Director of the Energy Justice Law and Policy Center.
“Unprecedented dialogues are being held in Albany for climate justice agendas - and investment - in frontline communities, which calls for true representation from people of color. This action is our first in a series of statewide actions for climate justice that the Energy Justice Alliance of the Hudson Valley will be hosting with community stakeholders. We join activists calling for the passage of the Climate, Jobs, and Justice Package (CJJP)—a suite of legislation that would move New York off of fossil fuels and implement NY’s Climate Act.” Shared alliance lead Paul Presendieu.

Advocates are pushing for the passage of key Climate, Jobs, and Justice bills still in play in the state legislature at the end of session, including:
The Just Energy Transition Act (S.2935/A.9881 of 2022), which would provide a plan to guide the replacement and redevelopment of New York State’s fossil fuel facilities and sites by 2030;
The Climate and Community Protection Fund (S.5360/A.6263) which would create a pool of funding to implement our landmark Climate Act and direct benefits back to communities and workers;
The NY Home Energy Affordable Transition Act (S.2016/A.4592), which would give the Public Service Commission the authority and direction to align gas utilities with the Climate Act’s emission reduction and climate justice mandates;
The Climate Change Superfund Act (S.2129/A.3351) which would make the state’s worst polluters, major oil companies, pay for the harm they’ve caused; and the Stop Climate Polluter Handouts Act (S.3389/A.8483 of 2022), which would end the most egregious state subsidies of $330 million to climate crisis contributors—the fossil fuel industry.
